RB students in Fall 1992 actually signed a petition to revert back to the old bell, but to no avail.

FIRST MEETING OF 2007 SCHEDULED
FEB. 22 MEETING WILL SET COURSE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR

Hello Rainier Beach Alumni & Friends! We hope the new year is off to a good start for you!

Please join the Rainier Beach Alumni Association/Foundation & Dollars for Scholars Chapter for the first meeting of the new year. Come meet old friends and make new friends! Find out what's new at at the school! Learn about how we are supporting RB students and helping keep Alumni in touch!

A number of our board members have had to leave the board because of new responsibilities (new babies, out ot town jobs,...) so we have positions open. If you have been thinking you would like to get involved, here is your chance! No special skills are required, just a desire to do something good for your high school!

Meeting Date: Thursday, February 22nd, 2007
Meeting Time: 6:30- 8:00 p.m.
Location: Portable 69, located behind the high school (parking is available in the small lot at the back of the school).

Questions? Contact Eleanor Goodall, class of '81 at rbalumni@gmail.com or 206-409-5068. We look forward to seeing you there!

RB DRAMA TO PRESENT "VOICES FROM WASHINGTON HIGH"
PRODUCTION IS FOLLOW-UP TO LAST SPRING'S GROUNDBREAKING "GREASE"

Steward
Plan for another excellent RB drama production, as Makela Steward and company present "Voices from Washington High" on Thursday, Feb. 1, 6:00 PM, at the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center. Fee is free, but donations of any kind are accepted!

Steward is a Class of '99 Alum and current RB English/Drama teacher. Supporting RB drama is a big deal because, prior to last spring's "Grease," there had not been an actual RB drama production in five years! Indeed, the Robeson Center hasn't been used too often, and this event will continue to bring some momentum to the performing arts interests of the school.

A WORD FROM RBALUMNI.ORG'S WEBMASTER, MR. WU
This is David Wu (RB Class of '96)... Well I haven't really been updating this site too much, but I did add that new updated banner up top. Updated some of the interface, menu items, fonts, etc. I dunno... I just felt like it needed a little update, that's all. I also added stuff about the first meeting of the year. Oh, and a shout-out to Makela for what she is doing with the RB drama dept.!

Anyway, I wish I could get more involved with the alumni group! (Wish I had more time!) But there really are some amazing things happening in this community. Students are expressing themselves in art, drama, music, and (yes, to all the nay-sayers) academics.

I know some alumni who are stepping up their involvement in the community, the school, and in individual students' lives. These are heroes in my book. This includes all the people who take the time to meet in the Foundation and Dollars for Scholars meetings. This includes the entire teaching staff and administration at the school. This includes all the great mentors and tutors that are now working in and around the school. I can't think of a more inspiring thing than to see people MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Thanks to all of you, for you inspire me as well!

Lastly, another shout-out to David Follis (Class of '89) for paying for this website domain.

$11,000 IN DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED
On Thursday, May 18, 2006, the Rainier Beach chapter for the Dollars for Scholars program, which is overseen by the RB Alumni Association, announced the selection of seven graduating seniors to receive scholarships totalling $11,000. Students were selected for their academic achievement, involvement, and overcoming obstacles to success. The awards were announced at the start of the annual Multicultural Dinner.

THANK YOU, DONORS! These scholarships mean a lot, not only to the students who receive them, but to the school community as a whole.
